Water as the most important element in everyday life is playing an important role in maintaining the ecosystem of Xiong’an New Area as Xiong An is largely covered by the existing lake and water bodies. Fluidity of water movement inspires this project to create a seamless circulation movement between water, land and the built environment. Shaochedian area is the significant land-lake eco-tone area of Xiong An that this project would focus on.
Along with the key objective to preserve the existing natural landscape structure of Xiong An with pocket water bodies and parks being inserted into the urban texture to enhance the connection between natural and built environment. Hence, improving the relationship between people and the environment thus moving towards a sustainable city development.
In order to achieve this goal, exploration on the creation of color field to serve as an information for machine learning about Xiong An urban planning. A massing of different patterns were combined to achieve an organisational solid and void abstract pattern. Finer detailed patterns were created by combining denser pattern with less dense pattern where less dense pattern serves as an overall urban structure. Xiong An current map was applied onto the pattern created to mainly extract it natural landscape information as it is still an underdeveloped area and is lack of urban texture. Further urban texture information was extracted from different cities like Canberra, Barcelona and Venice that excelled in different urban planning aspect. To extract useful information from different aspects of urban planning from these cities, a collage of these cities were made to serve as the basic urban texture of Xiong An urban area.
Through the analysis from different urban planning strategies around the world that has its own powerful information to be taken away, for instance Venice with its waterway, Barcelona for its walkability and the connection between people and built environment as well as Canberra for it green connections, it is possible to create a desired urban planning strategy that suits Xiong An the most with attention being paid to the transition between water bodies, green land and built environment.
In conclusion. machine learning provides us a platform to collect and interpret data very quickly with options that inspire our design process and based on the results shown, it is possible to create a vission for future detailed exploration about this project.
